Frequently Asked QuestionsEverything You Wanted To Know About Band and Didn't Know Whom to Ask
WHAT IS BAND BOOSTERS?
The purpose of Band Boosters shall be to promote and encourage the instrumental music program at Camp Hill High School and Middle School; to offer material and moral assistance to said instrumental music program, to promote fellowship among the membership of the association; and to build and maintain an organization of adults which will help promote the general activities of the Camp Hill instrumental music program. All parents and guardians of Middle School and High School students in the Marching Band, Band Fronts (flags, guard), Concert Band, Pit Orchestra, Jazz Band, Pep Band, and Holiday Cheer Band may be Participating Members in Boosters. All other persons holding membership shall be classified as Associate Members. Participating Members may vote or hold office.Executive Board meetings give the elected and appointed officers a place to plan an agenda for the General Booster Meetings. The General Booster Meetings are open to the entire membership.Meetings are held in the band room. The boosters meetings are to coordinate upcoming activities, inform parents/guardians, and a short presentation may be presented (i.e. presentation on what TOB is all about). The meetings are open to all and any interested parents/guardians. These meetings are listed in the Camp Hill school calendar.
Mr. Zirkle hands out an itinerary every Wednesday night at the end of band practice. This contains important times/events for the upcoming weekend. Details for the events are included such as when rehearsal is, football game time and date, time for departures to TOB’s, etc.HOW LONG IS MARCHING BAND SEASON?
Marching Band ends in November. However, there are 2 rehearsals in April to prepare for our Spring trip and one in May for the Camp Hill Memorial Day ParadeWHAT IS A TOB?
TOB stands for “Tournament of Bands.” TOB’s are competitions that the Band enters during the fall. It is an opportunity for our students to be evaluated by judges to improve the performance of our program from show to show. It is also a great chance for our students to perform for a large audience. It is the philosophy, priority, and goal of the Camp Hill Band program to perform under these circumstances and not the goal of our program to “compete” against other bands.
Tickets may be purchased through the Band Boosters at all football games prior to the TOB. A portion of the ticket price is retained by the Boosters, so please make every attempt to purchase your tickets through our organization.HOW CAN I OBTAIN DIRECTIONS TO TOB’S AND FOOTBALL GAMES?Mr. Zirkle provided a complete list of directions to all football games to your son or daughter within the past few weeks at band practice. TOB directions are available from the parent selling tickets.ACC’s is an acronym for Atlantic Coast Championships. It is the “Super Bowl” for bands. As you can see by the schedule, we go to 5 TOB’s in our chapter, or region (nine county area in South Central Pa). There are 13 chapters in 6 states. Each Chapter has their own Championship. The top 25 scoring bands in all 13 chapters (combined) qualify to perform at ACC’s. It takes place at a beautiful Astroturf field in Scranton, PA. Our band has qualified 15 out of the last 17 years. It is an exciting event… and a highlight for the band. For more information, visit this website. For home games students go to the school to get uniforms and then they report directly to Seibert Park. We do not transport the band to home games from the High School and if your child does not drive, then you are responsible for getting them to Seibert Park. For away games and TOB’s we take buses. We try to arrive at the site at least an hour prior to the starting time. For Friday night games we leave around 5:00 PM.If there is a conflict with another activity and private transportation arrangements are needed, a parent/guardian must present a signed note requesting to be excused from riding the band bus to Mr. Robertson or Mr. Yeager. Once this note has been signed by an administrator, it then needs to go to Mr. Zirkle, prior to the event. Parents/Guardians may transport their own child, and only their own child.I CAN’T BE AT EVERY EVENT, WHICH ONES SHOULD I GO TO?
We recommend that you contact Micki Kautz (737-0614) for 3 or 4 events that you could attend and help chaperone. We would encourage attending as many TOB’s as possible….these shows are the highlights of the season.
